Stormy Day

Stormy Day in Music City

The potential for hazardous weather hangs over the mid-state like a thick, gray, fog. In the past, days like these have produced high winds, flooding, and even tornadoes. There's a family story about one such twister that killed everyone in my grandmother's family, except her, surviving as a toddler. The large family was found by authorities tied to the supporting pole and stove in the center of the small, one-room shack. My grandmother was discovered wandering and in shock near the site of the tragedy.  That story, and other family lore, inspired me to take up pen and paper at a very young age in hopes of helping me understand the vicissitudes of life and on a deeper level, myself. I think most artists take up this quest in hopes that someday, somehow, events of tragedy and sorrow will make sense.

Last Breath

Who doesn't like a great survival story? No one. Check out Last Breath, based on the true story of sat divers, people who maintain underwater pipes carrying oil and natural gas. Woody Harrelson is always interesting, and Simu Liu carries the film.

He'd said he felt like a performing monkey before, and the filmmakers decided to go with that image. Beautifully written and rendered, it takes a few minutes to get used to the idea, but it's worth it. Check it out!

This requires a delicate balance of artistry and craftsmanship, where every word, every sentence, and every carefully constructed scene contributes to the illusion of reality. I write historical fiction and contemporary thrillers. Both genres require research and the creation of characters representing opposing views of the plot. While the writer may base these characters on personal experiences or friends and families, their main reason for existence is to challenge the dramatic debate proposed by the plot. The goal is to present a plot and create an experience. The reader should feel the heat of the desert sun, the chill of the winter wind, the weight of grief, the thrill of victory. They should taste the bitterness of betrayal, the sweetness of love, the tang of the sea salt air. This immersive experience hinges on several...
